Being self employed we are all either champions of ourselves or victims of ourselves.  Since taking control of my business 1 years ago I have admitedly been both. 
I believed back then that all I had to do was advertise and I would get the clients.  15 years had changed alot, many seminars, educational sessions, customer experiences and feedback etc.  But the biggest thing that has changed in that time  is CHANGE itself.

morris county chimney inspections: The anatomy of the Fireplace Part 2: The Throat and Damper assembly - 06/24/10 08:48 AM
The Fireplace throat is one of the most important areas of the fireplace construction.  The throat is essentially the termination of the firebox and the beginning of the venting system of the fireplace.  This is where the traditional throat damper is placed during construction and is normally completely visable without any special tools are accesses. 
An Interesting point about the throat is that it is NOW required to be 8" above the face opening of the fireplace.  If your opening is 36 x 24, your damper/throat assembly must be at 32" high.  Formerly, the requirement was 6" above.

morris county chimney inspections: Does your chimney guy know more than the code official about chimneys? - 06/23/10 04:32 AM
Over the past 2 weeks, I have been confronted twice by sellers who went with my buyers chimney inspection report to the township code official.
 
I was shocked and down right frustrated to find out that one of them contended my statements were false and the other mentioned grandfathering.
 
I am in a unique position.  I work as a chimney inspector, but I am also a Licensed Building Inspector in NJ.  I also taught the chimney portions of the code to the class I was in......after the instructor started, he looked at me and said....well....maybe you should do this.
