Low cost upgrades on your home to become more energy efficient will be a tax credit of 30% of the cost up to $1,500. Eg.--biomass stoves, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, insulation, roofs (metal & asphalt), water heaters (non solar), windows and doors. A tax credit of 30% with no upper limit is for: geothermal heat pmps, small wind turbines, and solar energy systems. This tax credit is good until December 31, 2016!!
