For 9 consecutive months and 3 consecutive Quarters, sales stats have been better than the same period in the previous year. For example, sales in May 2010 were better than May 2009 both in terms of total sales and in terms of total sales volume, the 2nd Quarter of 2010 was better than the 2nd Quarter of 2009... and so on. That changed in July 2010; and the sales numbers were NOT as good as July 2009 - or for any July going all the way back to 2005. With the end of the year approaching, there are 985 single family homes on the market in the Pinehurst Area MLS. Inventory levels dropped under 1,000 a few weeks ago and remained low. That is a great sign for our market. The holiday season partly accounts for the drop, but home sales have recovered somewhat in the 4th quarter of 2009. Plus, builders are hesitant to get back into the spec home market just yet. We'll have a better sense of the shape of the housing recovery in the Pinehurst area by the end of the 1st quarter of 2010. The Carolina is a public course in Whispering Pines, NC, just 3 or 4 miles from Pinehurst. Designed by Arnold Palmer, The Carolina is a challenging course from any tee box, requiring fairly straight and accurate shots on a lot of the holes. Back tees - about 7,000 yards (73.2/142), Mid tees - 6,500 (71.6/134), Men's tees - 6,000 (69.8/122). Terrain is flat to slightly hilly. Greens are tough and protected by hazards on a lot of holes.
