Quick note to all my readers and all the Storm Lake and Alta, Iowa locals. I have had a very busy week showing properties, attending a closing for a great couple from Colorado - Stacey and Alan Schlechten, negotiating a commercial building purchase, analyzing a couple of income properties for an investor and finished it up having great fun helping mud the drywall in the new basement of a wonderful couple of friends - Brad and Cindy Pedersen with a bunch of other friends - John Hase, Joyce Rydstrom, Matt Younie, Gary Launderville, Ronnie (you know my husband), sorry if I missed anyone. … (0 comments)

Everyone is asking, how's the real estate market and without looking at the actual numbers I know we are down but not suffering in this immediate area. I was actually surprised at how much we are down not just in price but also in number of homes selling. The Iowa Association of REALTORS publishes the monthly statistics on their site. Since January 2007 there have been 20 residential sales, of the 20 sales Real Estate Specialists had 14 of the listings and 13 of the buyers. Both the Storm Lake market and the Alta market are in need of fresh properties, we are down to 47 active in Storm Lake and 5 in Alta. In Alta there is 1 property that has an accepted offer and 7 in Storm Lake. All the Realtors have Buyers that have been looking for homes for some time. In reading a lot of the national press and the posts on real estate blogs the real estate is suffering nationally. Well, not here, we are located in north west Iowa and our market is still smokin hot even though this is the time of year that it usually slows down. We do have really ugly winters here, blizzard alley and all that you know. We are seeing an increase in foreclosures, especially in loans that are from out of the area.
