Bank of America says it will provide up to $30,000 in relocation assistance to some borrowers who can't pay their mortgage. They want to work with the borrowers to obtain a preapproved short-sale price before submitting purchase offers.
To be eligible for the program and payment Short sales must be started by the end of this year and close by Sept. 26, 2013. At a joint meeting of City Council and the Port of Bellingham commission the announcement was made of a slimmed-down plan for a redeveloped central waterfront. Of course the plan won't be  finalized until fall, but some key changes from earlier proposals seem to be:

Did you know that Bellingham has its own circus. Yes it's true. There are no animals but there are lots of jugglers, acrobats, stilt-walkers, clowns, aerialists, multimedia theatricalists (now that's a mouthful) and lots more.
The Bellingham Circus Guild is a collection of professional and amateur hobby Circus artists. Their mission is "to assist and support the circus arts community of Whatcom County and to promote Circus arts in the community at large and to radically proliferate great delight at every opportunity." The Whatcom County tax bills that start arriving in homes this week will be the first under the county's new, more fair, annual tax system
The four-year cycle of reassessments  where property owners in different parts of the county taking turns getting  big jumps in property value and the unjust share of property tax payments that came with them are gone.
County Council approved spending about $2.5 million on upgrading computers needed to make the system work.
Some people in the county will see minor adjustments this year as all properties get caught up to the same assessment cycle.

The 19th Annual Haggen to Haggen 5K is an fun Run & Walk. It usually attracts well over 1,000 participants evenly divided between runners and walkers. Haggen to Haggen is a fast course that winds through several Bellingham neighborhoods, including downtown.
The event begins at Sehome Haggens and ends at Meridian Haggens. Free busses will be available to shuttle participants back to the start. I just recently discovered a great resource for anyone with kids in Bellingham.  Launching Success is a store dedicated to helping children learn.  I found Launching Success while looking for resources to help teach my son math.  His math teacher told me about it and recommended I check it out for additional materials to help my son learn fractions.
I was just amazed when I got there and saw the depth of the store and materials they have available to help kids learn. Books and workbooks, toys and games puzzles,  classroom supplies gift cards and more.

 The season for watching bald eagles has arrived. They come down from Canada and Alaska every winter to feed on the abundant salmon available to them in the Nooksack and Skagit Rivers. 
I saw an eagle just the other day flying over Fairhaven.  A great place to see the Eagles is along the Skagit river along Highway 20, the North Cascades highway, between Concrete and Marblemount. There is a great lookout just above Rockport.

People from across the world will participate in  the Bellingham Scottish Highland Games at Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale this Saturday and Sunday.

Traditional athletic competition, such as caber tossing (which looks like throwing telephone poles) and the hammer throw.
Lots of pipes and drums, when about 400 bagpipers and drummers march and play.
Scottish country dancing competitions.

I just became a soccer dad.
My son started playing soccer this week, his first practice was last night, and his first game is Saturday morning. This will be his first season with the WCYSA, or the Whatcom County of Soccer Association. The season runs from March 22 - May 10. They play at the Northwest soccer Park which is owned and operated by the Whatcom sports commission.
