wellesley: Who's Greener? Wellesley or Needham??... - 09/01/08 08:28 AM

Numbers don't lie.
Or do they?

Long time rivals Needham and Wellesley's latest skirmish isn't on the playing fields; rather it's taking place at the dump.  Or actually the transfer station where town recycling takes place.

Numbers released for 2006 indicate that 69% of Needham residents recycle, compared to 49% of Wellesley townspeople.

But Wellesley officials take issue with this, since all communities "self report."

And as such, these reported numbers are subject to interpretation...

wellesley: Wellesley College...Calling "Cash in the Attic ???" - 08/30/08 01:48 AM
Posted on August 30, 2008 by bostonkayakguy | Edit
Wellesley College

While now might be a good time for Wellesley College to enlist the services of the BBC hit show “Cash in the Attic,” the show that helps you find hidden treasures in the attic, or the museum as they case may be, it appears that the Davis Museum is making adjustments to its policies and procedures to “enhance controls regarding museum operations on a defined timeline.”
Wellesley College President H. Kim Bottomly asserts that Wellesley has taken strong measures to prevent a situation similar to that involving a … (0 comments)

First they threw out the tea. Then they threw out… Posted on August 28, 2008 by bostonkayakguy | Edit First they threw out the tea.
Then they threw out the clothes. ( see “Ask Me Why I’m Naked post)
Then it seems, they threw out the multimillion dollar painting! !
That’s right…the powers that be at Wellesley College have discovered that a Leger painting valued in the vicinity of $2.8 million has gone missing!

Seems it’s possible it was thrown out with the trash !!!
There will be a number of concerned Wellesley College art donors (of which I happen to … (0 comments)

Cashing In…Homes With Benefits Posted on August 22, 2008 by bostonkayakguy | Edit And just when you think you’ve seen it all…you realize you haven’t!
A single, 42 year old mother of 2 in Palm Beach Gardens has penned a unique way to market her home.  Buy the house; receive a “princess bride!”
That’s right; the sale of this home apparently comes with benefits. Your very own Barbie replica who’s been looking for Mr. Right and saw a unique opportunity to search for her Prince Charming and market/sell her home.
She’s posted ads on ebay (since taken down,) and craigslist, as well … (0 comments)

wellesley: Wellesley: School Calendar 2008 - 2009 - 08/19/08 04:13 AM
Tuesday, September 2, 2008
2 weeks……2 weeks…………2 weeks…….2 weeks………. UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL !!
Have you heard it?  The clock is ticking!

Exactly 2 weeks from Tuesday, you’ll hear even more.   There will be the frantic search; cabinets and cupboards being opened and closed.  Drawers closed in frustration.  Doors slammed.

Clothes will be taken from the closet.  Some will land on the floor.  Missing shoes will be retrieved.

Breakfast will remain untouched in some instances.  Hairdryers will be humming.  iPods will be removed from the bedroom, family room, car, …and other sundry places.

wellesley: What Is An Education Worth $$$ - 08/17/08 05:08 AM
The debate has been raging for some time here in Wellesley, along with other Massachusetts towns: “Does the most money equal the best education?”

The other side to this question is: “How much control should individual towns, some being wealthier than others, have over replacing outdated, outmoded school facilities?”

WELLESLEY HIGH SCHOOL

As we all know, Wellesley is currently embroiled in this very debate with the state.  As a graduate of Wellesley High School I can attest that the need for state of the art facilities is clear.  The students of Wellesley have been waiting a … (0 comments)

wellesley: A Summer of Discontent: Why I Can't Love the Cottage Restaurant in Wellesley - 07/31/08 11:15 AM

When the COTTAGE restaurant came to Wellesley, many townspeople eagerly tried the cuisine offered by the newest restaurant in town.   http://www.cottagewellesley.com/

The first reports were not kind; mediocre food, mediocre service.

The location on Linden St. was great!  Good parking, convenient for when you're out shopping - the COTTAGE got high marks.

Understandably, there were kinks that needed to be ironed out.  New restaurants need time to get up and running and people were understanding.

Then recently, a couple of favorable reviews indicated that the COTTAGE had improved and was worthy … (0 comments)

Bloodhound Unchained debuted in May in Phoenix, and showcased a powerhouse roster of geeks and gurus who spent 3 days educating, prodding, and generally illuminating the nuts and bolts of social media marketing.
This Boston broker was mesmerized!  I've been toiling in the trenches for the past 14 years, and this world we labor in; it's a changin'!  Web sites, texting, youtube...this is just the tip of the iceberg of the way the internet is changing the real estate industry.  But it's tough to stay on top of an ever evolving, ever changing compendium of digital enhancements.

wellesley: Beach Boys - 05/24/08 02:06 PM

I love the ocean.  I love real estate, but I LOVE the ocean.
All my life, I've marked each important milestone with a song by the Beach Boys.  I left Wellesley High behind, to "Graduation Day."  I enjoyed my summers to the sounds of "Fun, Fun, Fun," I whiled away many a monent to  "California Girls;" and I knew I'd met the girl who'd become my wife as we cruised off the coast of Long Beach to the tune of "Sloop John B."

Well,  my home town became the scene of many of  my lifelong fantasies when the … (3 comments)
