william james walton: What's Happening in Wolcott, CT - 05/31/09 07:55 AM
Of course, school is about to end for the hundreds of Wolcott students, and parents, grandparents, etc. are preparing for the intervening summer months, as well as graduation and all of the other end of the school year festivities.
Interestingly, seven local restaurants have teamed up for  A Taste of Wolcott during the entire month of June. It is the first time that Wolcott has had such an event, and it promises to be an exciting extravaganza of food for those who love good food.
The restaurants that are participating are:
Bin 300 World Bistro, at 300 Wolcott Road; East Street … (2 comments)

Well, as we all know, school is about to end for thousands of our children and of course we are making preparations for graduation, summer camps, vacations, and various other summer activities as we enter into June. Here are some important events that will be occurring prior to the school year's official end that you might not want to miss:

On Saturday, June 6, 2009, the American Cancer Society will be having its annual Relay for Life at Crosby High School , located at 300 Pierpont Road in the city’s East End. Many teams from schools across the city, as … (1 comments)

Sellers Tip #2:
The Key to Selling Your House
The most important thing that you can do to guarantee that your home is sold is to list it at the correct price. Overpricing your home will only lead to fewer showings and no serious offers. A market analysis by a realtor who has your best interests at heart will provide you an accurate price at which to list your home … (0 comments)

william james walton: What's Happening in Watertown - 05/20/09 01:55 PM
I was reading the Town Times this weekend and found several things of interest to Watertown/Oakville residents, for those who do not get or read the paper:
The Watertown Police Department has unveiled its new website, which is accessible through the Watertown CT homepage in the Departments link. The website provides information on the history of the department, as well as records, investigative services, animal control, parking information, arrest logs and other services. There are also links to MADD, AA, the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry, the CT DMV and Crimestoppers. Information will be updated regularly and there is even a site … (0 comments)

william james walton: Celebrating the Small Steps, Part 6.... - 05/20/09 05:37 AM
Every time I write this saga, I am reminded that indeed that it is not the end result that is the most important, but the many little things that I have done to get there.
Thanks to an excellent post by a fellow Rainer, Tim White, I sent a mailer to several expireds and fsbo's in my area. I packed the mailer with information that both parties could use, and a keychain to entice the prospects to open the letter. I mailed them out on Saturday.
Tuesday afternoon, as I was checking my voicemail, I had received a call on Monday … (5 comments)

william james walton: Hey! Where Are You Going? - 05/20/09 02:30 AM

In this day and age, one can always look up information about a place on the Internet. Looking up interesting facts about local demographics, school data, crime rates, etc. can be pretty tedious, and oftentimes one can make a decision about moving to a place based upon that data alone.
Of course, negative publicity about an area will always have an impact on it. That's a given.
Whoa! Hold on a second, will ya? I know, I know - Waterbury has indeed gotten its share of bad press, but that's no reason to run screaming from it.
Indeed, there are many … (2 comments)

william james walton: The Answer Lies Within.... - 05/17/09 01:12 PM
What should I do with the rest of my life? Should I seek direction from others? Who am I to be?
What is right and wrong? Is there a God? Why should I follow any religion?
Of course, there are myriad other questions of this sort which I could randomly crank out, but honestly, I neither have the time, patience, or inclination to do so.
This sort of questioning reminds me of a recent post by Andrew Mooers that explores the rather obtuse way in which many look at the problems of life and expect cookie-cutter solutions, or have unrealistic expectations, of … (1 comments)

william james walton: Are You Worthy of Respect??? - 05/14/09 10:47 AM
It seems as if there is a need for a few lessons to be taught here in the Rain.
After reading The Lovely Wife's latest post, I had to go back to Lenn Harley's post on the need to qualify buyers -and there, to my amazement, I found some of the rudest, most obnoxious comments I have ever had the unpleasure of reading.
Then, of course, Lenn writes a scathing rebuke of the most onerous offender in How To Get Your Comment Deleted on Lenn's Blog. Hijack My Blog. Very classy and well deserved, and done in a very respectful manner, I might … (5 comments)

william james walton: Wolcott, CT - Market Update May 2009 - 05/06/09 02:48 AM
Here's the latest information on the Wolcott CT real estate market for the month of April:

Wolcott homeowners made out nicely in the last month, with roughly over 10% of houses on the market being sold. These houses were on the market on average for a little over 3 months, were average sized houses in Wolcott, and sold for well under the average listing prices. What's even better, is that prices on average have inched back upwards over the last month.
