Get Your Swimsuits Ready in Southwestern Illinois
Regardless of the thunderstorms and tornadoes we're having in Southwestern Illinois, spring is well entrenched here and summer is sure to follow. Our summers are hot and humid, and being landlocked we look forward to the opening of community pools and water parks now almost ready for the hot days ahead.
Saturday, May 28 is a big day in towns and cities in Southwestern Illinois not only because of the Memorial Day 2011 weekend, but it's the day for pool and water park openings; finally ready for the wet and wild summer:

Tanks For The Memories

I read Rose King's blog this morning, and it gave me this idea of what to blog today for the 31 Days of May Challenge and for the Wild Wednesday Group.
When we moved to O'Fallon, Illinois 19 years ago from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan we were greeted by this water tank on State Street, the old main artery to the city. I liked the logo, it was quaint and highlighted the many mature trees we have.  Unfortunately, the logo has been painted over to reflect the many changes in the city.

It's the last day of the Art on the Square this afternoon capping the show's 10th year anniversary. It's the culmination of a much anticipated event that brings talented local and out-of-state artists, and commerce, for three days to the city of Belleville, Illinois.
This juried exhibit and sale of fine art was ranked first in three of the last four years among other major art fairs based on sales figures. Hundreds of thousands have attended this event since its opening, and from 850 - 1,000 exhibitors apply, but only 100 participants are … (7 comments)

Gas Prices on Parade

When the price of oil goes up, consumers immediately feel the pinch at the gas pumps. I have my iPhone with me at the ready, so I took pictures of posted gas prices in my neighborhood.  This is the first one taken on April 23 as it reached $4.00/gallon at our local Sam's Club, just south of O'Fallon, Illinois.

A week later, time to fill up again on May 3 in a local gas station in the business center of O'Fallon Highway 50.

Paulo's at the Mansion - an Elegant Restaurant in O'Fallon, Illinois
One of my favorite restaurants is right here deep in the heart of O'Fallon, Illinois. It's Paulo's at the Mansion, nestled in a park-like setting surrounded by mature trees, looking out over a small lake.
It was built in 1857, a two-story Italianate style brick building with a square cupola on the third floor. In early 2000 it was completely rehabbed to be used as a restaurant called The Mansion at Lakepointe.  Though the fare was great, the former owners had to close down the enterprise.  Enter David Kappert and Paulo Pacheco who brought … (2 comments)

ofallon il: Two Little Cameras - 05/04/11 04:27 PM
This is probably nothing new.  After finishing at the Realtor® Expo in Collinsville, Illinois today, and after dinner, I find myself scrambling for something to blog about.  It's now 9:15 PM here in O'Fallon, IL and my brain is not engaged and the clock is ticking!  I decided to look at my picture albums and see if something will gel.
A kernel of an idea.  I like my Samsung TL34 HD wide angle digital camera with Schneider-Kreuznach Zoom 6.0-21.6 mm lens.  I bought it two years ago for $250 and it's been a great little all around camera.  It has video … (7 comments)

What's At the End of Your Rainbow?
It's been four years since I joined ActiveRain, but unlike many who blog every day, the most I've posted in a month is 11, back in April 2011 and November 2009.  No more... for the first time since being a member here, I'm now holding myself accountable to blog the 31 Days of May Challenge.
What's changed?  The realization that I already comment frequently, so with a little bit more effort, I can post articles as well.  If no one reads them, that is OK, if no one comments, that is OK, too.  But … (12 comments)

Enjoy These Beauties While They Last
There's a Weather Warning and Weather Watch issued for Scott Air Force Base, IL tonight.  It's reported that 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch hail is expected.  We live in O'Fallon--about 10 minutes from the base, and chances are the storm will also affect us.
So, I decided to take pictures of our tulips in full bloom in the backyard late this afternoon.  If the storm comes this way, I would have captured the images of these beauties.

Fair is fair, my husband planted them last fall.  He seems to have the green thumb in the family.  Aren't they beautiful?  … (6 comments)

DIY Steps to Kitchen Improvements - Before & After
This could have been titled, "Three Easy Steps..." but we have different interpretations of the word "easy" so keep it mind that the steps are dependent on your skill level or that of your significant other, relative, or friend.  These steps are not expensive and can be done in a weekend:

Can you believe this?  Jeff Turner demonstrated his Real Estate Shows at my company office last Tuesday.  I read his name on the intro slide, and I thought "I know that guy!"  But I didn't see his shaved head anywhere.  It turned out that it was a webinar and he was in Cali at the time.  It was still very nice to hear him in real time and I even got to ask him a question.  I bet Jeff still doesn't know where O'Fallon, IL is on the map.
