, you want to succeed in business, do you? Well how much do you really know about your business? About your industry? If you really want to go to the top of the heap, you need to be able to be the top dog in your industry.

When many people think of being the top dog, they think that means you have to be the highest paid person in their field. While eventually it can become that, it doesn't always have to be the case. The more you know, the more power you have in your industry and that you can use to get others to think you are they person they should come to.

Know Your Business and Products

Bill Bartmann Tip #1 is to make sure you know your own business and products better than anyone else. When many people start their businesses they know all of the things they are offering to sell. Usually this is because they have a limited inventory. But over time, you expand the inventory and the offerings and you may not pay as close of attention to all the things that are up for sale. If your customer asked you a detailed question about one of your products right now, would you know what to tell them? You should always be the first line of expertise on the services and products that you offer to your customers.

If you work for someone else, make sure you know all there is to know about the business you work for. Take it on as your own and know everything from how and when it was founded to what the company hopes to see as their future path.

Know Your Competition

Bill Bartmann Tip #2 is to know who your competition is and what they are doing. Trust me, the competition will be watching you closely and keeping an eye on everything you do. You need to be making sure you are doing the same thing back. If they are offering a great sale on a service that you charge a lot more for, you may see your customers go to your competition for that item. Once they are able to get them in the door, a good sales pitch may cause your customers to switch for good. Only by knowing what your competition is doing, and making sure to do better, are you able to secure your customer base. You may even be able to lure some customers to your store from theirs by using this skill.

Know the Trends

Bill Bartmann Tip #3 is to know the trends that impact your industry. The more you know about what products and services will be needed at certain times of the year or for certain events, you can make sure you are better prepared for those times. You can also use that information to market to the customers who will need those products and services to let them know you are stocked and ready for their patronage.
