Why You Should Leave While Your Home is Shown

Your home is for sale. The phone rings. Someone is coming to see it!

No, you should not stay to greet the prospective buyers and their agents. Go for a drive, go for a walk, make yourself scarce!

Why?  The answer lies in the way virtually all people raise their children.

Well-mannered children are taught that if you go in a stranger's (or even an acquaintance's) house you do NOT go poking around in their private spaces without their invitation.

Buyers need to know how large the pantry is, the laundry room is, the linen closet is, all the bedroom closets are, and the storage areas too.  They want to see inside the places!

They really do not care if they are tidy or not, because they know that if they buy the house all your things will be gone.  So, while you may not be proud of the messy closet, disorganized storage area, teenager's room, laundry room with unwashed clothes, or messy pantry, they want to size up the spaces.

Of course if you are there they are not going to just open up the door and look!  That would be unspeakably rude.  So, if you are there, they will just censor their curiousity and leave not knowing much about the house.

If, on the other hand, you are gone, they and their agent will check out the spaces to determine how big they are, an important question for prospective buyers.

So, when someone comes to see your house, the buyer's agent and the listing agent both hope you make yourself scarce!

The most important choice in buying or selling a house successfully is your choice of an agent. Deanna & Jim's GOLD Team has successfully handled over 350 transactions in the last 8 years.
