Who do you call first when you are having computer problems?

Yesterday I noticed a problem sending and receiving emails, about one half hour into my day.  I did what I was taught to do, when in doubt "reboot"!

That action allowed the one email to go out and then I noticed other problems, i.e., unable to log into a non-web program and documents not scanning to the computer.

So who do you call first when you have computer problems?  I called the company that owned the program first, then the copy/scanner company next, then the internet company next and then the company that provides my internet ISP Address.  After hours of discussions, I broke down and called my per hour IT guy.  He figured out that it was a computer issue and so we then called Dell.  Dell was right on it and as I am typing, a new mother board is being installed on my other, brand new computer.

Jeesh!  There are so many people that I am "partnering" with, who do you call first?  I forgot to add Dell to my list of people to call.  I think that they will be first on my list next time.

Have a great day!

I call my hubby who usually knows just enough to "fix it". He just rolls his eyes and says "that's why I got a Mac"

I like the disposable idea...because I often feel like throwing mine in the garbage can!

Hi Katy, Ha - I have a solution!  My great IT guy, Mohammed Shiekh is going to help me select a new server to calm my nerves.

I have heard great things about Mac's but haven't ever worked on one.  Am I such a creature of habit that I would rather spend another $_,____.__ on more equipment?  No, I would have needed this anyway with the Red Flag laws about to hit my portion of the industry.  So why haven't you switched to the Mac?

There are so many "technical friends" you come into contact with -- grab one and have at your disposal -- help them and they will help you when in need or a time of crisis

HI Julie, If I've rebooted it, hit it, called it a few names, I might start with my kids, then a neighbor, then one of my colleagues at work, a couple of techy friends, then finally I might call a help line from the vendor.

Ahhhhhh HA!  Re-Boot.  Always Re-boot first - words of wisdom to live by.  Now I have my server up and running so losing a computer for a little while isn't so painful.

Julie,

I normally ask my kids first. Then, I call the computer guy in my area who is very good at what he does and can fix it remotely after he has worked on your computer once and doesn't charge you if he can fix the problem remotely.

Oh dear, not good with keeping up with older posts. What's that old saying:  "It's the devil you know."  I watched my husband struggle to learn how to navigate his Mac. He mainly uses it only for personal use. It's been over a year and I still hear him say occasionally "I know how to do this on a PC, but how do I...?"  So haven't really been tempted to change.

Well Katy, you just convinced me that I am not missing out on the "easy" uses of a Mac!
