To be casual or not to be casual with the client? What do you think? Professional all the time? Old School or New Generation?

To be casual or not to be casual with the client? What do you think? Professional all the time?

                                              Old School or New Generation?

If you know me, I'm in a t shirt and khaki shorts all summer long. Now is that unprofessional to meet clients in a company shirt and nice shorts? Do we have a "standard" that I need to be aware of? For my 1st listing, I did throw on some khaki pants and a nice shirt, but I think it would have been ok andmore comfortable in a more laid back casual company shirt and khaki shorts. I know we all have standards and I'm not trying to change things, but I think being casual is Ok.  What do you all think about that?

Thanks in advance for you comments

Perhaps it depends on the particular business, but I always dress business casual. I never go to a closing without a tie on.

I wear blue jeans and a "dickies" work shirt MOST days.  If I am going to church, I will put my suit on.  I live in a "regular" working class community, why would I want to out dress them (and be uncomfortable?)?

Have a great day....

I believe it all depends on the area in which you service. Does anyone else dress so casual?  I always meet clients in a suit and tie or at least, now that the weather is warm, a shirt and tie.  Shorts and a t shirt would be too casual for me and my broker would throw me out of the office if I ever showed up for work like that.

I always say dress for your market. Here that would be unusual. Check with your broker and see what you company dress code is...if they have one.

Although I work in a conservative community I wear casual but never with shorts. I feel if a REALTOR looks clean and tidy (presentable) then that's what counts.

I read somewhere to dress one step up from your clients. If you want to be considered a professional I believe you do have to dress the part.

I dress for who I'm working with.  Things are more casual these days, but especially the first time when I'm meeting someone for the first time, I generally wear a tie.

For lower economic homes, I feel they are often put off if I dress too upscale, so I wear a nice shirt & slacks but no tie.  I never wear shorts, and rarely short sleeves - I feel they make you look unprofessional.
