IAHSP Convention June 2007 in Chicago

Last year I didn't attend the International Association of Home Staging Professional's Symposium, but this year I felt very fortunate to attend the convention. Held in Chicago last week, our classes took place at the historic Navy Pier. The conference was not only a learning experience, but fabulously fun as well.

Chicago is a friendly, clean and happening place. There were families pushing strollers, older folks checking out the city, and all ages in between. There is shopping on Michigan Ave, there is Millennium Park to explore, "Taste of Chicago", The Art Institute of Chicago, the theater district, The Water Tower, plenty of night life, deep dish pizza, Chicago hotdogs, Cheezborgers, and so much more. If you haven't been to Chicago lately, go!

Barb Schwarz is a dynamic speaker to say the least. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and I think we all left the convention with a shot of adrenalin to push forward with our home staging businesses. Several internet strategies were discussed to improve our marketing plans, and a talk on developing a more focused business plan was offered. Jennie Norris discussed moving into the future with greater organization, and without fear of partnering with other ASP's to improve our delivery of services. Jennie added a large dose of humor in her speaking, which definitely got the crowd going, even at 8:30 AM :) There were many vendors there offering reduced prices which we can hand down to our customers. We received a lot of info on business insurance, furniture rental, inventory practices, and yes, blogging advice!

I headed off to the convention a little nervous about my Meet-the-Pros session on Staged Photography, but I got back much more than I gave when it was all said and done. Everyone at the convention was sharing experiences and business tips which created a powerful few days. I'm excited about the future and what I can offer to my home sellers here in New Hampshire.

Next year's symposium will be held in Seattle, Washington. Start saving now, it'll be worth the trip.

Hi Sue,

Glad you enjoyed it - and it was really nice to meet you in person.  It is hard to put into words what the overall experience is - but the energy is palpable - and I hope that more will join us in Seattle for next year's convention!
