How to put captions on photos for free

There are free download programs that will allow you to put captions on photos from an SD memory card  even when they're printed.

Captions are defined as text appearing under or outside of a picture as with Picasa. Sometimes you want to add text to your actual pictures. Starting with the easiest to use PhotoFiltre.  It's a French program, available in English at www.photofiltre.free.fr/download_en.htm. Using PhotoFiltre, you can reposition the text with your mouse or with the arrow keys on the keyboard. When you're finished adjusting the text, hit the Enter key on the keyboard to "cement" the text in place.

Another program is Paint.net available at www.getpaint.net, which allows the use of layers, making it easy to reposition text. With Paint.net, if you add a layer before adding text by using the Layers palette, you can easily reposition the text. Use the Layers palette to flatten the image, which finalizes the text, before saving the picture.

With any of these free programs, be sure to use Save As to save your edited pictures with a new filename to avoid overwriting the originals.

Captions are also important when advertising listings in a real estate magazine. There is an art to it!!
