Southern Driving in the snow

Another balmy 15 below zero outside today! The snow partially melted then re-froze again last night making the neighborhood roads ideal for ice-skating or sledding. I did see one neighbor trying to "ice-board" on Regalwoods. He had a skateboard with the wheels detached. He couldn't get momentum so he latched on to his friend's bumper and tried to balance before smacking the ice. Thankfully it was just his rear-end that got bruised.

My next adventure was the hill headed up Foxford Dr. covered in ice, snow and multiple vehicles, fish-tailing in slow motion. If you live in the south you know that people from the south and snow covered roads don't mix. Most of my fellow southerners get nervous when the forecast calls for snow. The grocery store was stripped of bread, milk and all bottled water a week before the storm came (needless to say it was kind of anti-climatic when it only snowed a couple millimeters this past Thursday).  In the south our method of exercising caution equates to HEAVY BREAKING when we see a patch of snow or ice on the road. Most of us who grew up in the North know that heavy breaking + icy roads = a ditch.

My advice? Stay home and knit a pair of mittens for the dog while watching re-runs of Desperate House Wives.

Chloe the Bulldog says: "Why the hell would I want to go on a walk in the snow when I can chill here by the space heater?"

I agree with Chloe, as a transplanted Yankee, it is better to stay in and look out in weather like this.

I'm dying laughing about Chloe's pic. My dog Abby has the same sentiment, but not near the facial expression. She just looks at me like "you have GOT to be kidding"!  Stay warm!

Vanessa, as a northern transplant in the south...what you have to say is very funny and for the most part true...I was out during all that snow, ice and cold weather that we didn't get...well it was a little chilly and I did see a couple of snow flakes...anyway, accidents all over the place...roads and schools closed...there was of course a run on milk and bread at the stores, but the one thing I really don't understand is the run on the gas stations because if there is a threat of snow the place closes down and no one goes anywhere and the ones that do end up on the side of the road.  I really thought your "HEAVY BREAKING when we see a patch of snow or ice on the road" comment was funny.

Wallace: You are a smart lady. Don't forget to wrap yourself up in a snuggie too!

Steve: Us southern folk down yonder ain't 'custom to this white stuff... literally the city shuts down completely when the city calls for a "wintery mix" or maybe the majority of us are just looking for an excuse to play hooky!

Nick: Since your a 'Bama boy you know exactly what I'm talkin' bout. Congrats on the big win yesterday.

William: I'm sorry.

Practice makes perfect...LOL,  so get out there and practice walking, driving, shoveling and making snowman. Guess we snowbirds cannot feel real bad for those who are not use to it.
