So, you want a lot of natural light?  I think this house has you covered! 

This custom home was chosen and then the design modified to be the perfect fit for the current owners, Tony and Valentina.  The owners, who originally planned to use this as a second home, are a wonderful couple.  They wanted a getaway house, as they were living in a condo in a high rise in Alexandria.  They wanted a place where they could have a garden.  A place where she could do her art. A place where they could have a change of pace. A place where they could stretch out!

We worked with them to find exactly the right lot.  She wanted a nice flat property with good soils....on the mountain. Hmmm... not easy to find, but we did! 

We worked tirelessly with them on every detail of the house... orienting it to get as much natural light as possible, turning the master suite of the plan into her art studio, and adding and adding and adding windows and skylights!  Oh, and extra sound insulation between floors and around her art studio. It seems that she likes to pump up the volume of her stereo while she's working on her art!

Well, it turned out fabulous!  So much, that they rented out their condo and moved in full time.  He was able to convince his boss to let him work from home 2-3 days a week, so he only commutes into the city about half time.  Apparently, the sound insultation is working well, because he enjoys working from home, and she enjoys her music, art and gardening. They love it so much, they're in the process of buying the lot next door.
