Real Estate: The Secret to Achieving your Goals

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Execs- South Bay

In order to achieve any goal, one must first have the Desire and Determination to reach that Goal.  We all have goals, whether we acknowledge them or not.  Everytime we say or think, "I wish ....."  "I'd like to ....." or "I want ..." we are creating a goal. Now, these goals can only become a reality if there is a desire (the want) and a determination (the belief in it) to make it happen.  Anytime a "wish" or a "want" doesn't come to pass, we can look back to our thoughts and feelings about the goal.  Did I really want that? Did I really believe in it?  The Secret is not to allow uncertainty and self-doubt to plague your mind. This can be much easier said than done.

Let's say you want to retire with 2 million dollars in the bank.  You can either stuff $80,000/year under the matress for 25 years, or you can invest what you have and watch it grow.  By investing in real estate, a whole new world of opportunities opens up. I know what your thinking. "But I don't have the money for a down payment." "I can't afford the payments"  "I should wait until the market picks up, or interest rates go down" That negative thinking is going to keep you right where you are.  Granted, for some people the timing just isn't right for now, and for others it's never right - those folks have been on my mailing list for eight years.  Seriously, where there's a will, there is a way.  So you don't start out in the house of your dreams. The point is that unless you start, you'll never get where you want to go.

So how do you start?  Well, that probably depends on your circumstances. Let's take "no down payment". Find someone who does. "But I don't want depend on someone else - I want to do it on my own" Oh, come-on. Do you really think that the self-made millionaires out there got there on thier own? No. They had the support of others who shared the same dream or believed in them. How about, "can't afford it" You can't afford it because you think you can't. There are alot of options out there - you'd be suprised at what you can do. (I'd be happy to discuss this one in more detail one-on-one.) "I like my lifestyle - I don't want the commitment of a mortgage" Unless you are living at home rent free for the rest of you life, you have a commitment now, to the landlord. I know, it's easier to be accountable to others, than it is to ourselves. And believe it or not, it is possible to enjoy your life now and prepare for your future adventures. Do you really want to spend the second half of you life working like a dog to catch up?

Then there's my favorites. "I'm going to watch the market." Watch it for what? You might as well watch the clouds or your life go by. All of these things, our lives, the clouds and even the market, are constantly changing. Your life is the only thing you can adust the direction of. What are you actively doing to achieve your dreams? "I'm going to wait til the market goes down" How do you know it's down, unless it starts to go back up? If you have a crystal ball, I'd love to see it. We can each guess what the market or the clouds will do. But in reality, we really don't know until after they have shifted, what direction they are going. Besides, if prices are down and interest rates are up, has your affordability really improved?  "I'm going to wait til the market goes up" This one really only aplies to current homeowners who think they must sell in order to buy. Don't limit yourself, think outside the box. And if you are not sure how, call a realtor who can - me.

So, what are you afraid of? What is keeping you from your goals?  Who of us out there wants to work thier behinds off, feel isolated and retire (if we're lucky) to a nursing home on a fixed income? Not me!

they are so important and to have them written down and visualize is equally important. I believe you have to have a way to measure your progress.
