Wordless Wednesday- Buddy

Title Insurance with WFG NATIONAL TITLE INSURANCE COMPANY

You know everyone is posting their pictures of cats and dogs..  I no longer have either , but if my 6 year old gets her way I am sure we will have a dog by May.

18 months or so ago a "friend" asked if we wanted a tortoise.  It was small so we took it.  It has tripled in size and still growing

The cool thing is "buddy" {An African Spurred Tortoise} is basically maintenance free.  He loves to eat grass, and Hibiscus flowers and Hibiscus leaves.  (all in the backyard)

He will actually come running to the door when we open it as he knows we have a fresh strawberry or two for him.

We have a Dog-loo (igloo shaped dog house) with a heatlamp on a timer to keep him warm on cold nights.  In the summer he burrows in the lantana.

I had no idea that you had a Tortoise.  I'm sure the girls love him, but understand why the girls want a dog!

You mean you have a tortoise but your daught wants a dog? What's with that? LOL

The San Diego Zoo feeds their tortoises a combination of carrots, lettuce, and hibiscus.

You should also join the ActiveRain Nature Station group and post your nature photos there.

Paul,

Very interesting.... perhaps Santa may have to bring the Girls a Puppy!!   Our Schnauzers like Hibiscus flowers too... They know they aren't supposed to but in the spring and summer they come into the house with the evidence hanging out of their mouths.

Jim,

Thank you for the heads up on the carrots, we also feed him spinach, I read that lettuce (iceberg) is too much water not enough roughage. so he fills up too quickly

I love it! What a great pet! We once had a baby tortoise too, but my small dogs were not "friendly" to it and I was afraid it would be harmed...so we gave it to a friend who had a tortoise family already (and spoils them).

What I learned during the time we owned ours.....lettuce is one of those items to stay way...not enough nutrition.

Gab,

The guy that gave us the tortoise which he found... had a dog-loo that he wasn't using so I took it off his hands

Adrea,

Thanks that is what I heard about Iceberg lettuce too. We have dog sat, but luckily the dogs were obedient and stayed away when told to.

Karen,

I don't think he could run in your back yard filled with 70+ inches of snow :)
