It must be true, I read it on active rain

By
Real Estate Agent with Boardman Realty

I spend some time each morning reading active rain posts.

I am not an expert on technology or on blogs but do have more experience with both than the average business person.

There are posts that contain advice and information that is just wrong.  I read the comments and so many of them say thanks for the good information and advice.

Those comments make me cringe.   It is hard to resist the temptation to leave a comment of my own stating that the information is wrong or the advice is bad.  In general I don't want to argue with other members or embarrass them by publishing contradictory information.

All I want to say is just because you read it on active rain or some where else on the internet does not mean that it is true or accurate.

Even though I am an early adapter and user of new technologies I scrutinize web sites and test new products before I jump in.  Just because I read on the internet that a new web site is the latest and greatest does not make it so.

Read, research and varify! - - this post was inspired by my 13 year old niece who was reading my personal blog.  I did not know she was one of my readers.  I had a post that was meant to be humerous and she beleived it because she saw it on my blog on the internet, and it was written by her Aunt.

On target, Teresa. Of course we deal in opinions on our blog, and try very hard to ignore facts, they just get in the way of a good opinion!

One of the most effective high school classes I had back in the dinosaur days took the written media and dissected it for hidden impact.  This class predated a similar class which was part of my Master's program at the U.  Both classes were extremely helpful to me in analyzing the power of putting things in writing.  For most, we are unaware that we accept it as truth if it is written.  Imagine all the junk on the internet and the opposing views.  They can't all be truth.  They can all be truth as the writer sees it, but not true truth.  Enough philosophy lessons for today.  But I do think often of the power I have when I reduce something to writing.  Illustration choices impact the message as well.  That why all those beautiful women are pictured with the new cars and the Marlboro guy is a hunk.  The subliminal message is powerful.

You mean Auntie's aren't always right?

This idea hits home.  It's exactly what I've been trying to say about the national real estate stats, zillow, smarter agent, etc. While it is information, it may not hold "truth" for your particular situation or locale.

Great post!

Now that is where I want YOU to quibble Teresa... or post a blog with your differing view point..... maybe not pointing out the other blog... because that can become contentious.   There are so many opinions out there and I know some of what's been passed on here  as fact is fuzzy  ... as well as all over the blogphere... anywhere people have opinions.

I loved that bLaugh cartoon... but I thought it was funny from the perspective of admitting to copying from the internet.  I did not get it I guess.
