A Hip Eatery in the Downtown Houston Area: Oh My! Pocket Pieshttp://www.ohmypocketpies.com/

Check out Oh My! Pocket Pies if you are looking for a cheap, hip place to eat lunch in Downtown Houston that is all LOCAL and easy on the environment.

Here's the scoop: Oh, My! Pocket Pies is, well, like a Taco Truck, but they sell no Tacos. They sell Turnovers and burgers. The Turnover pies are stuffed with different things, so you have a variety. They have a steak pie, a chicken pie and several others. The stuffings vary depending on the season. They also serve burgers. They have 3 types: Chicken, Shrimp and Beef. They also have dessert pies, including a chocolate stuffed pie they call S'more.

So, why eat at Oh My! Pocket Pies? Because of the GREAT food, and Joe, who is the owner and chef. He came up with this concept when he was a restaurant consultant for several years and studied restaurant trends. He http://www.ohmypocketpies.com/saw that Gourmet Traveling Food Trucks were really taking off in many other markets and since the Taco Truck concept does well in the Houston area, he thought he might try to take the idea and make it uniquely his own, and maybe start a new trend in the Houston market.

What makes the Gourmet Traveling Pie Truck work is technology. Specifically Twitter and Facebook. When he moves to a new location, or gets a special event to cater, he tweets his followers and posts on Facebook so that the world knows what is going on. It also helps to advertise the events at he will cater for, like an Art Festival, to increase attendance. So, hiring his truck to cater at an event such as this is a win-win situation.

What Joe has created with Oh My! Pocket Pies  is a deliciously unique experience. He gets all of thehttp://www.ohmypocketpies.com/ http://www.ohmypocketpies.com/ingredients as local as possible. He worked for many months to come up with local suppliers for the chicken, beef, bread, and vegetables. He uses Stacey Roussel's, All We Need Farm for produce, Ray Law's Law Ranch Cattle Company for the beef, and Slow Dough Bread Co., for the bread and pie dough, and Katz Coffee for beverage supply. The Shrimp was easy, it comes from the Fishmongers on Galveston Bay. He also found wrappers for the food that are Earth friendly, and serves Teas and drinks that are Environmentally Friendly. He makes all the sauces for the pies and burgers himself. They are good!

A couple of tips you might like to know before you go and order some delicious food: The pies are on thehttp://www.ohmypocketpies.com/ small side. If you want to make a meal of just pies, order two or three. If you get just one, it just leaves you wishing for more, because they ARE so GOOD. So, go ahead and order more than one. They are moist, but not drippy, so don't worry about it dripping down your arm or anything.

A good order if you are a BIG eater and are VERY hungry is a burger, one pie for a side, a side salad and a S'mores pie for dessert. They have extremely good iced tea, so order that if like tea.

OMPP locationSo, where are they? They usually set up for lunch behind the conventionhttp://www.ohmypocketpies.com/ center at the corner of McKinney and St. Emanuel in the corner of the parking lot of the Kim Hung Market, (which you can see when you are heading Northbound on Hwy 59 if you look down to your right instead of at the Convention Center).

I recommend that you sign up for their feeds on both Twitter and Facebook so that you can keep up with them. They deliver to downtown locations, so if you are stuck in your office, give them a call.  Also, go to their website and look around. Make yourself at home there. While you are there, you can follow the links to sign up to follow them on Twitter and Facebook, and may other links for a sustainable lunch or supper. Don't forget to bookmark it so you can find the place when you need to order a delivery for lunch! And, Enjoy!
