I got my WordPress.org blog some new Plugins including Sexy Bookmarks. On Facebook yesterday I saw Jeff Turner recommend an Amplify of a post from Social Media Examiner written by Naomi Trower called:
11 Essential WordPress plugins to get your blog in motion
Plugins I added from the list of 11 Essential WordPress plugins
I added in 5 of the 11 recommended plugins... one is not working, one is not activated yet. I love my Sexy Bookmarks list of social bookmarking icons.
Sexy Bookmarks - "SexyBookmarks adds a (X)HTML compliant list of social bookmarking icons to each of your posts. See configuration panel for more settings."
The cute little image is showing. There are other settings for different phrases if "Sexy" does not work for you. Or you don't even need words... see the configuration panel... (configuration panl is a link on your WP.org dashboard plugins page when you have the plugin on your blog.)
CommentLuv - "Plugin to show a link to the last post from the commenters blog by parsing the feed at their given URL when they leave a comment. Rewards your readers and encourage more comments."
Activated byt NOT working darn it all.
Platinum SEO Pack - "Complete SEO solution for your Wordpress blog."
I can not tell if it is working... or even if I have it set up completely. It is activated.
SEO Friendly Images - "Automatically adds alt and title attributes to all your images. Improves traffic from search results and makes them W3C/xHTML valid as well "
Good I'd be up all night worrying if my images were " W3C/xHTML valid" if I had a clue what it means.
I can not tell if it is working yet...
Yet Another Related Posts Plugin - "Returns a list of related entries based on a unique algorithm for display on your blog and RSS feeds. A templating feature allows customization of the display"
I deactivated it... need to look to see if I need to do more to set it up.
Adding Plugins
I probably should only add one plugin in at a time so that if one causes problems I could isolate it. I had heard about Sexy Bookmarks at the last virtual rebarcamp... wish I could tell you who gave the presentation. Very down to earth. Great presentation about blogging.
ActiveRain WordPress Group
In an ActiveRain post Cheryl Johnson said a mobile plugin she used needed some tweaking. I am very intimidated by tweaking so I have not tried the mobile plugin... on the Social Media Examiner post YET. I want to see if this is the Plugin Cheryl shared with the ActiveRain WordPress group or another.
I already had two of the eleven on the list... I have something that serves the same purpose as the third.. that still leaves more there for me to explore.
If you blog on WordPress.org as well as ActiveRain join us in the WordPress group. Visit the Social Media Examiner post (link above ) for links to the other individual plugins!
