Richard, His days were done long before we got him to the camp site!

Marcia, it was more of a "helllloooo turkey" Nice turkey feast in the woods

John, It was delicious!  Every time I cook a turkey this way I am surprised at how fast it cooks, I bet it shaves an hour off of oven times at home

It looks delicious.  I have never done a turkey like this, how long does it take?

Sharon, it cooks much faster than at home, I bet it cuts more than an hour off of the time, The big issue is the size of the oven, 18 inch square seems to be the best size, if you go to 2 feet it slows the cooking time down a bunch.  It is like a convection oven since it heats from all 4 corners, pretty neat way to cook ... It is called a "Rebar oven" since it is basically 4 pieces of rebar with baskets on the corners to hold the coals.  we made all of it in the woods a few years back and continue to use it now. the middle piece is like an upright rotisserie, but we made ours out of a piece of hollow aluminum a few smaller pieces of aluminum to hold the bird, and a wooden handle we cut off a fallen branch.

Great looking oven - textbook. Hope it tasted as great as it looked. Next time, go for the garbage can. :)
