How color can affect your mood!

Knowing the meaning of colors and how they can affect our mood is very important.

I love colors!... life is in color

As a Realtor it is essential to know the importance of colors and how we can use them in our daily life.

Also at the same time our clients can benefit by knowing the correct use of colors that can make a successful sale or easily affect and interfere in a potential sale

I remember years before I was a Realtor, back when I was a buyer, we were relocating home and business and we needed a bigger house. Our agent was showing me houses and as part of the buying team I was designated as the one to find the right house. Almost every day I looked for house that would be right for us.

About the time I was starting to get tired and disappointed because I was not finding the house that we were looking for, I told myself not to give up. All I needed was a home in a specific residential area that was good for business as well. The agent gave me a call and said, Mrs. Butler "I have the perfect home according to your needs." I got so excited and we set an appointment immediately. As we arrived at the house I saw the outside color, I said Oh my gosh! Look at the color!

As we approached inside it seemed that the colors became much stronger. The excitement was gone when we got inside. (Remember that buyers make decisions based on emotions) my eyes popped wide open. The house was like Picasso home, one wall was red, not the whole room just one wall the others were black, yellow and orange I am not kidding. This was just in the main entrance, every bedroom was painted with the same strong bright orange, red and black, oh almost forgot that there was a pink color too.

My expression was.. This is so far from good taste and it's also hurting my eyes. I don't like it at all. I remember very clearly that moment when my agent whispered in my ear and said I agree with you.. this is really ugly. Let's go I have more to show you.

If only my agent had said something like, look at this big space the layout is perfect according to your needs and it's in your price range. Try to visualize it without the outrageous colors and you'll find that this is the perfect home. I am sure we would have bought it. Now as a listing agent we should advise the seller how colors can benefit or affect the sale. As buyer's agent we should be more informative with our clients and explain all the benefits. Not just whispering their ears as my agent did.

P.S. I love colors!  Inside my home it's painted in faux sponging technique with light yellow color, and this represents joy, hope, happiness and more. Our home office it's painted in light green color which is representing health and good luck.

If we were selling it I would rather paint it in just beige and light colors to make it attractive to buyers. Any new person buying a home can and will put their own personal favorite colors on the whole house.

Hi Esperanza~  My favorite is purple and if I could I would use it all over my house!  But, since I know I will be selling it within a couple of years, I wouldn't do that.  I noticed that blue and white are the only ones without any negative connotations.

Esperanza, love that name, as it is part of my last name.  Well I wholeheartedly agree.  I think the color pink makes you mellow out, however it is not very masculine.  However, my wife chose it for our bedroom, and I was upset about it, and she said don't worry about it, because as soon as you walk in the room you will chill out.  Is that logic or is that she got one over on me?
