The Whittier Public Library periodically holds auctions to sell books as a way of raising funds to purchase items for use by the library.
Currently, there is a silent auction in place that will last until August 28, 2010.
The books are donated by the Friends of the Library, a volunteer organization that works many hours every year to help raise funds for the library. The Friends collect books all year long, and sell them not only at the auctions, but also in their store, which is located at the corner of Comstock and Bailey, Uptown Whittier.
You can preview the books, under a glass case, at the Whittier Central Library, where you can also write in your bid in the silent auction.
The Whittier Central Library is located at 7344 Washington Avenue, Whittier, CA 90601.
You can learn more by calling the library at (562) 646-3450.
