Check your neighborhood for sex offenders.....

By
Real Estate Agent with Samson Properties VA0225077251

As a Realtor we make our client sign off the Megan Law form that informs buyers to check for sex offenders living in the area. But once you have moved in to your home with your daily routine simple information we tend over look till something happens in the area ....

Since we are only couple weeks away from school being back in session, that means kids are back in the backyard playing and walking/biking to their friends homes for play dates or group study.

As a parent, I regularly check for any sex offender that may moved in and around our neighborhood. It takes few minutes to learn and educate your kids about their safety.

For Virginia residents you can go to Virginia State Police website to look up for sex offender by your zip code/county/name or address. Especially if live in an area has a huge turn over for rent or sale it may be better to keep checking periodically on the website.

I have found Family watchdog also a great resource for the list if you don't live in the Virginia area.

Excellent information!  In our state the buyer is responsible to do their own research on this kind of info.

Ver good advice. I just wonder how many do not register like they are required? Scary thought.

I think it is a great idea to educate and keep reinforcing to kids the need to be safe and what they should do and look for. Not to be scared but careful. It's not the ones on the list that I'm concerned with as much as those that are not on the list.

A sex offender is not to be confused with a child molester. Not every sex offender is a child molester but every child molester is a sex offender.
