My Government is FUNNY!!

Rolling laughter

Oh, my silly Government . . . at it again.  I think that little trickster, Uncle Sam, just wants to make milk squirt out of my nose.  Otherwise, why would I get an email the other day from the Dept. of the Treasury.  Thankfully, when reading this announcement, I wasn't drinking milk.

Because it's FRIDAY, what better day to share a FRIDAY FUNNY!  And if we haven't, yet, had our fill of our ZANY Government in action . . . here's something worth a read.

Apparently, since the mortgage melt down has taught us so much . . . our Federal Government thinks WE -- the consumer -- must be the problemo.

And because they think we're just all a bunch of idiots, they have now come up with a solution -- to help us "manage" things better.

But, to help us feel not all that stupd, they're asking for our input!!  That's right folks, Uncle Sam wants to know!!

The Department of the Treasury. through its "Financial Education" branch of the federal government, has come up with "Core Competencies." The following NOTICE is a REQUEST FOR COMMENTS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

They've come up with "Core Concepts," which include:

  • Earning
  • Spending
  • Saving
  • Borrowing
  • Protect

And under these "Core Concepts" would be broader things, such as:

  • Gross vs. net pay, benefits and taxes, Education is important, the difference between wants and needs (Under "Core Concept" EARNING)
  • Saved money grows. know abut transactional accounts (checking), etc. (Under "Core Concept" SPENDING)
  • etc.

Hmmmm . . . Thanks Federal Government.  I'm a 52-year old business woman, and if not for you coming up with this Financial Education flow chart I'd be lost . . .  Granted, I hate reconciling my checking account, but you're going to make that all better -- I JUST KNOW!!

And now, boys and girls, we'll NEVER . . . EVER have to worry about those banksters again!!  Because our Government has mandated the following: "As part of the development of the new National Strategy, the Commission determined that it is necessary to develop core competencies for consumers and financial education providers."

It's clear to me, that when MY Government puts out a Notice such as: 52596 Federal Register:  / Vol. 75, No. 165 / Thursday, August 26, 2010 / Notices we're all safe now.

But wait . . . HERE IS THEIR ULTIMATE GOAL:

"Ultimately, the goal is to put the Core Competencies into a format and language that are both easily  accessible and easily remembered- analogous to the ‘‘food pyramid.'' This step will be undertaken once we have received public comment."

Ah yes . . . the "food pyramid."  And we know how HELPFUL that is . . . because ONLY 33% of the Nation can be diagnosed with OBESITY!!

Why, if it wasn't for the easily remembered "food pyramid" we'd be even FATTER as a Nation.

And since they're requesting comments from the public, here's mine:

  • How much is this COSTING THE TAXPAYER?
  • WHO are the genuises on this panel, and how much do we pay them per year in salary?
  • And can I move to Canada now?!?

READ THE NOTICE, and don't forget to send them YOUR COMMENTS!!

Darn - I was holding out hope clear til the end that you were joking. But I can't imagine they want us looking too closely at our paycheck, we might start noticing how much more of it is going to taxes soon.

Carla, The best courses in high school were the ones that I still use today!  Typing may have been the most practical of all!  Something along these lines for kids wouldn't be a bad thing, but if the government thinks they're going to make an impact on adults??? Well, good luck with that....

OH, my side hurts from laughing. How could you possibly put the words GOVERNMENT and COMPETENCY in the same post! I grew up on a dairy farm in Oregon. NO WAY am I ever going to be smart enough to know how to live within my own means! I think I've just been insulted, come to think of it.

Hi Joetta -- no joke.  That's why the entire Notice is posted with this!  I wasn't making it up.

Hey Charita . . . of course, being "financially" responsible is something the government needs to "teach us" -- Funny, how they don't teach us about "USURY"

Hi Liz & Bill-- this is GREAT for children, and an "Economics" class as part of Middle School curriculum might be a good idea.  But for adults ?!?  Our own government is telling us we a bunch of dolts.  This would be insulting if it wasn't so gosh darn funny.

Hey Karen. . . the scary thing is our government must think WE'RE that stupid!!  And with the deficit being as it is, perhaps these Core Competencies might be MANDATED edu-ma-cational courses for CONGRESS and the SENATE!!  As if they have a good handle on fiscal management?!?!?

Hi Carra -- yes, that's not a joke.  They have spent how much on this?!?

Hey Lyn . . . I'm sure it pays better than what the average Realtor(r) is making right about now.

Hi Gene -- yes, and that punch (line) is spiked!!  Kinda like drinking the Kool Aid if we believe this nonesense will do much or impact society to any great degree.

Hey Cynthia . . . Core Competencies -- hey, you're right!!  The government and competency?!?  Good call.

Hi Deborah . . . the DOT issues this Notice, as if we're just dumb-dumbs.  Hmmm . . . a book??

Hey Margaret -- I agree these stupidities are costly.  But, at least they're asking us for input (as if that matters)

When does that train for Canada leave?

Hi Jenna . . . I just think they should CHIP us all, and get it over with.  I've been saying that for years.  Scan my paycheck, scan my purchases, all statistics from birth to death . . . right there, on the CHIP.

I wonder how many $100K+ workers did it take to come up with this, and how many layers of bureaucracy did it take to get it approved? Nice going guys, way to stimulate the economy.

It would be nice if more people did know the basics, but this is not the way to solve the issue.  The prior comment about teaching it in high school is spot on.  If only it were so.
