FLAT - says the Advocate. Sounds pretty good compared to many other metros around the country. Our July unemployment rate is 7.6% which is down from 8.3% in June. The largest industries in the city are Government, Education/Health Services, Professional/Business Services and Wholesale/Retail Trade. Total non-farm employment for Baton Rouge is 357,000.
Even though July housing sales numbers for the area are down a bit, the relatively steady employment picture should help be a stabilizing force in the market for the balance of the year. I'll be posting home sales for the month of August in a few days.
