The town of Natick is located in the center of the MetroWest suburbs of Massachusetts.  The fact that it is a mere 15 miles away from Boston makes it one of the best commuting locations in the area.

Doctors, college professors and many who are employed in high tech professions often choose Natick as home due to its close proximity to Boston's hospitals, universities and the 128 technology belt.  For life in the suburbs and employment in city, Natick gives the best of both worlds.

With a population of around 32,000, the town of Natick's total size is 16 square miles which are divided into 15.1 square miles of and 1 square mile of water.  It is home to scenic Lake Cochituate and Cochituate State Park which offers swimming, boating as well as a picnic area.

Like many places in Massachusetts, the town name comes from Native American roots. The word, Natick literally means, "place of hills" stemming from the original settlement in South Natick which is, in fact, a hilly area. Henry Wilson's Shoe shop

Officially incorporated in 1781, the town of Natick was home to one of the Vice Presidents of The United States, Henry Wilson. His modest shoemaker shop stands as a tribute to him right off of Route 135.

Natick Center

Otherwise known as downtown Natick, Natick Center is located at the intersection of Main Street (Route 27) and Central Street (Route 135.)

In this central location is the town common, the fire department, the pubic library, the police department and all other municipal buildings.  There is a lovely downtown area of shops, banks, hair salons and restaurants as well as the landmark, Jones Drug which has been serving the area since 1880.

South Natick

More rural neighborhoods can found in this part of town as well as some upscale developments like Sanctuary Estates.  South Natick is where the first Native American settlers arrived and started the town on the banks of the Charles River.  This is also one of the most affluent parts of town and borders with its borders on the communities of Wellesley and Sherborn.

North Natick

At the intersection of Worcester Road (Route 9) and North Main Street (Route 27) is the area known as North Natick.  Although mostly residential, there is a retail area known as 27/9 with the local Stop & Shop, Building 19, The UPS Store and a number of restaurants.

East Natick

Located along Oak Street and the intersection of Oak and Worcester Road is more residential area as well as the Industrial Park.  This part of town is also home to Jennings Pond.

West Natick Natick Mall Sign

Some of the most upscale shopping in the MetroWest area can be found in West Natick at the Natick Collection.  Formerly known as The Natick Mall, the new collection includes Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, Brooks Brothers and Tiffany's along with a number of restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory and the elegant French Bistro, Sel de la Terre.

Part of the Natick Collection includes the luxury condominiums at the Natick Nouvelle, offered as luxury living at the mall.

The town of Natick is served by two MBTA stations, one in downtown and the other along West Central Street in West Natick.

Claudette...a neat 'field trip' via the Rain. thanks.  For those of us who probably will never find ourselves in your neck of the woods, this was a photo & words trip.  Have a great weekend.

Claudette, When I was down for my high school reunion back in May...I visited the Natick Mall, Wow there are some really up-scale stores there. I was lucky to get out of there with my credit cards in tact.

Barb & Sal:

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you enjoyed the local field trip through the town of Natick.

Craig:

I appreciate that very much.  I try to showcase the wonderful towns in the MetroWest area for anyone who may be looking to relocate.

Steve:

It is always good to get your perspective since you are a native to this area. Hold on to your credit cards, indeed. There are some very pricey stores at the new Natick Collection.

Brenda:

It is a very nice town. Stop by any time.

Wonderful write-up, Claudette.  As a former resident of Natick, I have to say that the town has one of the best town beaches I've seen.  Nice sand, plenty of docks for jumping off of, swim team and swim lessons, and no motorized boating allowed.  Plus, the local pizza places deliver.  It is one of the many features that I miss about Natick.

I had no idea that you were a former resident of Natick.  Small world. If I had known, I would have interviewed you before writing the piece. Thank you for all of the great information.
