Batten Down the Hatches! Bring in all the Patio Furniture! Here Comes Earl!

What station are these people watching?  It can't be the same weather reports I am watching.  I know weather is unpredictable but come on...the sky was blue this afternoon on Sunset Beach Island, people were strolling the beach and playing in the edges of the water.  You do have to heed the warnings of rip currents that reporters were cautioning everyone on every station.  I was working in the Coldwell Banker Sloane office out on the beach, and we received call after call about possible property damage or the weekend forecast for possible Labor Day rentals. I listened to various reports, and I never heard anything except for a close pass to the Outer Banks.

Tonight, the local station said they would do hourly updates.  I thought OOOOH, something must have changed; I ran outside with my two dogs so they could do their thing before the rain started to pour.  It was a little breezy but the stars are out, for Pete's sake!  "Much ado about nothing!"  I did hope we would get some rain but it sure doesn't look like it.

Now, the joke may be on me...if you don't see a posting from me for a few days...Earl may have fooled everyone and came roaring into Sunset Beach or Ocean Isle Beach!  My granny used to say,"You have to have respect for God's work," and I do but I get the feeling this is men trying to improve television ratings. Everyone have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, no matter where you are...but we would love to have you at the Carolina beaches!

Sorry, I got the name mixed with my friend Eric who is coming to our cookout.

Yes, and we are also still waiting to see where it is actually going to hit.

Good luck, and we wish you all the best.  They are playing it up in the midwest just as they are on your local stations.  It's like a car accident....ratings.

Hi Linda,

I think it is hurricane Earl not Eric but you will remember it more once it lands on your backdoor.  Let me know how you make out because it is heading toward me here on Cape Cod next.  The dog has been walked and the cats are inside.  Still showing houses and writing offers before the power goes out.  Yikes!!!

Good Luck,

Laurie

9/2/10 9:42 pm...Earl is moving away from Grand Strand...waves have already decreased to 4-6 feet and it was downgraded to grade 2 storm.  Should reach Outer Banks after midnight according to local news 30 minutes ago.  Hot & sunny tomorrow!

In a previous career I was a weather forecaster and we had the best saying about our jobs.

Ït's the only job you can get wrong every day and still get paid."

Glad to see you escaped the major part of Hurricane Earl. I just can't imagine going through that each year, but it really doesn't matter where you live when Mother and Father Nature get involved.

Jim, I have lived at homes in Ocean Isle Beach, Sunset Beach, and North Myrtle since 1985.  I started out in a mobile home in a waterway community and have lived directly on the water as well as waterway communities.  The only damage I have ever had was a few shingles on the boat house and a ridge cap.  Granted we have been told to evacuate once or twice but we never loss power.  Now if you live out on those barrier islands...you deserve what you get.  I'll stay on the intracoastal any day.
