Rattlesnakes

"Rattlesnakes may be found in this area." This sign not only caught my eye, it made my heart beat faster. It was the first time that I've seen a rattlesnake warning sign since I've moved to Arizona. I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii where there are no snakes and lots of mongoose and koki frogs. Moving to Arizona has resulted in me being cognizant of my surroundings since there are many creatures living in the desert including rattlesnakes.

A few days ago several Sun City Grand residents ventured to Tucson for a weekend of golf, more golf and golf till you drop golf. You've heard of all you can eat buffets, last weekend was an of all you can golf golf.

After seeing this sign at a Green Valley golf course, I was extremely careful to watch where I was walking and certainly was not going to in the brush to retrieve any golf balls. I proudly boast that I own a nice set of golf clubs but I rarely golf. Four of my golf balls landed in the brush, all are waiting to be picked up, but not my me.

If I were golfing in Sun City Grand I probably would have searched for my golf ball using my golf club. After seeing this sign in Green Valley I dared not to reach into any brush. Living in the the valley of the sun has made me aware that there may be rattlesnakes almost anywhere.

We have rattlesnakes in our area too... I have come across a few on the golf course. They can change your entire day! Luckily when our desert cools and most people return... they go into hibernation and stay out of our way! Kathy

Leolinda - I lived in an area full of diamont-back rattlesnakes when I was a kid, and you must be very careful. They obviously want nothing to do with us humans, but they strike out of fear, and getting close to them scares them!

Leolinda, wow, theer is always something out there. I have seen here signs for bear crossing, warnings not to feed alligators, but never a sign warning of rattlesnakes, even though they are here

Todd, I've seen two rattlesnakes since moving here, one in the desert the other up north. This sign reminded me of my phobia which may be helpful in keeping me safe.

We could use some of those signs around here. Although they don't scare me too much; they usually warn you when you approach them with their rattling sound. Yes, around here in Eagle Ridge Golf course community in Gilroy we see plenty of them. They like to hide under cool rocks.
