Battery Saturday - November 6, 2010 - Suffern NY Goes Green

Battery RecyclingGO GREEN on Battery Saturday - The village of Suffern, NY is trying to do their part in GOING GREEN. They have set Saturday, November 6th, 2010 as BATTERY SATURDAY” – meant to encourage people to keep their toxic batteries out of the waste stream.  This will be their 2nd annual event.

Though the Town of Ramapo recycles batteries the drive to Pomona to the Rockland County Solid Waste Authority to dispose of them is often just not worth the trip for just a couple of smalll batteries. On Battery Saturday you won’t have to go far - batteries will conveniently be collected at Suffern Village Hall from 9AM to 1PM.

So, take advantage of the opportunity to eaCar Batterysily and safely dispose of old batteries the GREEN way and schedule battery replacements, maintenance and check-ups for vehicles, appliances, smoke alarms or any other devices in your home that use batteries.  If you haven't already done so this year, now, might be a good time to change your smoke detector batteries too.

Batteries of all sizes will be accepted – from small triple A’s to car and truck batteries.

So..... Let's all chip in and do our part in GOING GREEN and keep toxic batteries out of our waste stream!!!.Grren Leaves

This event is being co-sponsored by the The Village of Suffern and the CSEA Unit 8639.

Cal, Suffern takes their recycling and greening of the environment seriously.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone would.

Leah we had a big recyle event a few weeks ago, however I forgot about the batteries. I was focused on the big items.

I hope many will take advantage of this opportunity.

I want to have a Battery Saturday at ELLE!  I think we may have a "Cans for Hands" drive for the Scottish Rite Hospital...Children with hand differences.  Something we are thinking about, what do you think about it?

Jennifer - They schedule the battery Saterday just before the time change to remind people to change their batteries on anything that needs a yearly check-up.  Most people will remember the big things, it's the small ones that fall to the wayside.

Mona - anything that supports a cause to benefit children is a winner.  Our local board sponsors a yearly food drive collecting cans and non-perishables.  The battery Saturday is sponsored by the town.  We take part and sponsor other events thru Coldwell Banker's CBRB Cares to raise money for several worthwhile local organizations.  Anything you do to give back to the community is a win in my bood.
