Home Builder with New Homes for Sale Killeen Copperas Cove Ft Hood TX

New homes in Killeen are going green just in time for a new generation of energy conscious home buyers.   Home buyers are becoming much more concerned about energy efficiency in their cars and in their homes, and are looking for products that are less harmful to the environment.

Blown Cellulose InsulationOne green product that Killeen homebuilders are using in the attic spaces of new construction homes is blown cellulose insulation.   Just what is this cellulose material?   It's actually made up of about 80% recycled newspaper and other paper products, that have been treated with a nontoxic borate compound to resist fire and insects.   According to the Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association, installing this product on  just one 1500 square foot home will use up as much newspaper as one person would  consume in 40 years!   Less paper in the landfills means less stress on the planet.   And manufacturing cellulose insulation is less expensive than manufacturing fiberglass batts in terms of the energy used to create the product.

But what about performance?  The goal is to have a well-insulated home, and fiberglass IS, and has been, the industry standard for many years.   Will going green on insulation mean less efficiency and higher energy bills?

The good news is that tests have shown that properly installed blown cellulose insulation is MORE efficient in attic spaces than rolled fiberglass batts.

If you have ever looked in the attic of a home, you saw that there are all sorts of  spaces, voids, holes, and general nooks and crannies.   Good insulation performance means that all those holes, voids, etc must be filled and sealed off to stop the movement of heat and cold into and out of the house.  By its very nature, fiberglass batts do not have the ability to reach all those critical spaces.  BUT blown cellulose insulation, when properly installed, will sift down like sand and fill those spaces, creating a tight thermal barrier that cuts off air leakage and keeps your home more comfortable for less money.

This is just one green product that you'll find in new homes in Killeen.   If you are concerned about the environment, ask your homebuilder about the green products he uses!  Jerry  Wright Homes uses blown cellulose insulation, along with Energy Star  appliances,  Energy Star rated lighting and fans, as well as high energy efficiency heating and air conditioning units (14.9 SEER) with heat pump in all new homes being built in Killeen and Copperas Cove, TX.
