Home Staging (even in the Dark) - Can Shed New Light!

Sometimes an upper hand is needed is getting buyers interested in purchasing a property. It is common that some folks can see through a "layer of dust", while others simply cannot visualize. If you have a home that is showing and producing no offers, then maybe a re-assessment of your marketing and presentation efforts are needed. Here is something that might get you thinking.

Well, fortunately we didn't have to stage completely in the dark, but this was the first time we'd ever had the power go out while we were staging.  We had just plugged in the iron and all the power went out.  Of course, the first thought is that we somehow did it.  After looking at the breaker box and seeing that nothing had flipped, it occurred to us that the strong winds may have caused the outage.  It had, which a next door neighbor confirmed!

These are things you don't really account for and when it's busy staging season, you can't just pack up and go back the next day since there is another job already scheduled.  So you keep going and hope for the best.  Luckily the power came back on about two hours later.

The other first for us was that the primary feature of this cute ranch home in Portland Oregon was a large bar / island.  So large in fact that we hadn't noticed on our first walk through that it was built 6 inches higher than standard, so our bar stools were dwarfed by the bar.  I'm tall and could barely get my elbows on the counter.

Becuase of the bar, and the narrow floorplan in the large living room, the layout of the room was very tricky and took multiple arrangements.  The fireplace split the room, but you couldn't put a couch facing the fireplace or there would be no room to walk through the house.  We ultimately ended up with two separate seating areas which felt just right.

The owners had to sell this property quickly and prior to staging it just wasn't selling.  Once the house was staged an offer was accepted less than three weeks later!
