Mortgage Bankers of Florida is a Full Mortgage Lender. A few years back I was between mortgage companies when I received a call from someone by the name of Michael “Mike” Camus. He is the owner of MCM Holdings, a Wholesale Mortgage Lender dba Mortgage Bankers of Florida, and was trying to recruit me to work for him. I wasn’t interested because I had just committed to another company, but we kept in touch over the next couple of years.
Mike invited me yet again to join his office in June 2008 and made me an offer to get leads, which no one in the industry was offering at the time. This was the best move I could have made. Had it not been for joining his company, I don’t know if I would still be in the mortgage business.
Mike, Hader “Moodi” Mahmoodi, and I took this program called the Reverse Mortgage and turned it into the cornerstone of our company’s success. We went from 3 individuals closing loans that were mostly generated by Spanish speaking radio and TV ads to 15 agents in 2010. Our closings grew as well. So much so that in early 2010 we were ranked #2 in Florida and #25 in the entire US among all lenders for Reverse Mortgage Activity.
Today, as we approach the beginning of 2011, we are seeing a reduction in Mortgage Originators (the new term for Mortgage Brokers or Loan Officers) in Florida from 43,000 licensed to less than 10,000. The Mortgage offices are also going out of business, from 7,000 to 1,000 offices will be left standing in 2011. This is because of new licensing requirements that take effect Jan 1, 2011.
We positioned ourselves for this very change, and used the huge success of the Reverse Mortgage to guide us to this outcome. Now we have an even bigger marketing and recruiting plan that will dwarf what we had previously done. Our marketing efforts will also be geared to the traditional mortgage products, like conventional, forward FHA, and others, and so that Realtors who currently don’t have lenders to send their business to can use our company.
