More proof a home is still a good investment!

By
Real Estate Agent with Surterre Properties

The typical seller who bought their home 8 years ago saw a 24% increase in equity (median gain of $33,000).

And those who were in their homes for 11-15 years saw a median gain of 40%!

So clearly, even with a decline in prices theses last few years, a home is still a good investment. And it seems like many agree. 85% of recent home buyers surveyed consider their home a good investment and almost 50% of them think that it is an even better investment than the stock market.

All statistics are from the National Association of Realtors latest survey of home buyers and sellers and can be found at www.realtor.org/research

It has always been a much better way of slow and steady building.  Unfortunately, a few people out there seem to lack the patience and want a quick return (hence the bubble).  Fortunately the market is turning around and people have relearned that slow and steady is the way to go.

I'm glad you all agree. People must learn to be patient. Nothing of value is created overnight!

Great post, Michael.  One thing people keep forgetting is the tax benefit to owning a home versus renting.  We can still write off quite a bit of the mortgage payments.  So, if one is writing off $12,000/year ($1000/month), that $12,000 SHOULD be added to the VALUE of that home as it is "recieved" every year.
