SOME WONDERFUL RESTAURANT OPTIONS IN GREENSBURG, PA
A couple nights ago I visited my son Erik (my real estate partner and sometime bartender) at One Eleven and "forced myself" to enjoy a glass of an extraordinary Ridge Vineyards Paso Robles Zinfandel while I waited for their new featured appetizer Pizzette! Crusty crust of flour and cornmeal drenched in olive oil and fresh garlic and delicately grilled then slathered with fresh cut sauteed sweet onions, layered with fresh spinach and then topped with shaved parmesean and provolone and fired in a super hot oven to crisp. Bring your appetite - this is an appetizer built for kings to savor. And like most selections at One Eleven the portion is very large - this is definately for two! And that Zin is a perfect pairing! My current vote for the best app in town.
So then I moved to the Pepperwood Grille where my son Jonathan (also my real estate partner and a sometime Bartender) brought me what HE said was the best - Firecracker Grilled Shrimp. They call it flash fried baby tiger shrimp in a chile aioli. For me there is more than a hint of Louisiana remoulade and that is enough to make my palate savor the delight for sure. Just a light hint of crunchiness - most definately not fried shrimp; a spiciness that grabs the taste buds firmly but delicately. It cries out for a German Riesling Kabinett! I only wish there was one to be had.
Stay tuned for more tidbits from the local food and wine scene. I know there are more really fine appetizers out there for me to sample and I really look forward to the challenge! My guess is my favorites will keep changing for sure!
Lots of folks tend to think that they have to go the "big city" for great food and wine. Nothing could be further from the truth - as the success of these venues illustrates. And there are lots more as well - Solstice, J.Corks, and The Supper Club are just some of the recent additions to the local scene.
More to come on these and other long-established, fine restaurants for an evening of culinary and oenological treats! Support your local restauranteurs! Home grown and owned is always better!
