HA!  Easy for Lenn to say, huh???  Sure.  However, it wasn't always that way.  Everyone begins at a beginning.

This post inspired by Craig Sneed's advice to Newbies.

LENN'S ADVICE TO NEW MEMBERS ABOUT POINTS.  

Ignore the folks with thousands or hundreds of thousands of points.  You're not going to overtake them unless they stop posting and so do hundreds of others.

FOCUS ON THE MEMBER JUST AHEAD OF YOU.  Work hard to overtake them and then focus on the next person just ahead. 

It worked for me.  There were many ActiveRain members when I joined, but I overtook all of them by focusing on that one person ahead of me, one at a time.Cash

HARD WORK WILL PAY.  The time you spend on ActiveRain will provide many benefits far beyond mere points.

Star FEATURES?  If you're not getting featured, read the posts of members who are and learn from their ability to structure, write interesting content and perhaps add a bit of color to enhance the reader's interest and enjoyment.  Fact is, it's up to you to present feature worthy posts.   If you believe that you have published feature worthy content without features, reach out to members for advice.  Sometimes just talking about a problem gives us insight to solve problems. 

CONSUMERS.  If your real estate related posts are PUBLIC, Gogglebot will visit and consumers Consumersmay just "run into you". 

AGENTS.  If you focus posts on local areas, real estate agent members may provide opportunities for referrals, incoming and outgoing. 

Consumer contacts and referral opportunities are far more valuable than POINTS.

I can remember focusing on points...about 400,000 ago. I now realize the points will come anyway, just work at your blog and participate!

That's the right strategy!  Also - pay attention to who is just behind you!

I think it's better to focus on the desired outcome.  I want my name out there in as many directions as possible.  One method of doing that is by blogging about and commenting on topics of interest that will help build my business.  If I'm doing that, the points will come.  Thanks for the reblog.
