One of the more useful seminars I attended at the "Art of Home" show was the staging seminar conducted by Amy West of "Staging Artists of San Jose".
Amy discussed many reasons why it is important to stage a home:
- Sell faster for top dollar.
- Stand out from competition. Many buyers will choose a nicer-looking home than a beat-up foreclosure.
- Help raise the value of appraisals.
- Make a great first impression in person, online, virtual tours, and in advertising
- An empty house has no personality.
While people are living in a home, usually they place their furniture in a functional layout that does not take aesthetics into consideration. When it is time to sell, sometimes the stager can use the owners furniture but must rearrange its placement to create a more pleasing look.
Amy finished the seminar by showing many examples where they improved the look. The before and after photographs were very convincing.
