We were promised a storm of historic proportions. The storm delivered 3” of sleet. Better than the snow that could have been! I did get to use my new snow blower though!! It worked on the piled up sleet. It was awesome!
We love our weathercasters but I think this storm threw them for a loop. We had the National Guard activated and they are being used to provide needed transportation and make sure no one is stranded on the road in snowy areas. Shelters have been opened for areas that might lose their power tonight.
It seems like the snowfall totals depend on where you are. Areas to the north and west of the St. Louis metropolitan area suffered much more. Jim’s sister who lives 2 hours west of St. Louis has 16”of snow already. They aren't done yet either. Upwards of 20-24" is predicted.
The big news is that Highway 70 between Wentzville (a western St. Louis suburb) and Kansas City has been closed. Large snowfall totals and blowing snow with whiteout conditions have closed the highway. Interstate 44 between Springfield Missouri and Oklahoma has been closed also. Not sure when either will reopen. It will depend on the snow clearing efforts and the winds that could cause the snow to drift.
Overall, as of 7 PM, it appears that the snow is lifting out of the area without dumping any snow at all. Yea!
