Bowie Moms and Dads, make plans now to take your kids to Groundhog Day on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Frank Oslislo Visitor Center at the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary. The hour-long event (2-3 p.m.) is sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Maryland Park Service.

Take a short nature hike and attend a puppet show, too. Doesn't this sound like fun for the whole family? Ranger Jarboe suggests you remember to dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes and bring water to drink. For more information, you can contact him by email at kjarboe@dnr.state.md.us.

The Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary is about 20 miles/35 minutes south of Bowie in Upper Marlboro MD. (MAP)

I had planned to go to the regional PInewood Derby at Annapolis Mall... so much to do, so little time.
