On Monday - Feb. 14 the Pinehurst Resort owned by the Dedman family purchased the Pit Golf Links in Aberdeen. Some speculate this may be a renewal of the Resorts plan to build a golf Village in the town of Aberdeen.
The Pit was purchased by a Charlotte man as a foreclosure recently for $1.08 mil. The purchase price by the Pinehurst Resort was not disclosed.
Currently the plans for the Pitt as a part of Pinehurst has not been decided. An analysis of the course and the surrounding area will be investigated. It is unknown if it will be a resort course such as the #8 course - open to the members of the Pinehurst Country Club or both. It is also questioned as to the possibility that there could be memberships to those outside Pinehurst property owners as is currently the case for Pinehurst memberships.
Ten years ago the Pinehurst Resort planned on building a golf village with two 18 hole golf courses, a 100+ room hotel, and a lodge and clubhouse. There was also to be commercial and residential development. It was decided after 9/11 that there was too much economic uncertainty so the plan was scraped.
It will remain to be seen if this purchased of the Pit will renew these plans for a golf village in Aberdeen by the Pinehurst Resort.
