Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi... Which would you choose...? Seriously... (Fun Story)

Diet SodaImagine you drink Diet Coke for a minute...

You love it.  You drink it.  It's cool and refreshing.  It tastes so good in a tall glass with ice.  In fact, it has to be cold first, and then add ice so it is bubblier.  It has no calories.  You are fan on Facebook.  You follow them on twitter...  And did I say it tastes good?

When you go to the store, you buy it.  Right there on the shelf.  Two-liters, cans, 6 packs, 12 oz bottles, 12 packs, 24 packs and cases...  Yum...  You have to have it.  You walk past the RC Cola, the Tab, the Diet Pepsi, the diet cheap stuff, Shasta, Jolt...  And grab your grey pack of soda...  Never thinking twice about your purchase...  Never EVER considering any other diet product...

One day, you were at the local market and wanted to get your fiz fix, and you see that Diet Coke is not on the shelf...  You look to the side, and Diet Pepsi isn't their either...  You gasp, as some cheesy 80's horror music starts to fill your ears...  You look high and low, left to right and no cola products are on the shelf at all. Nothing.

You see a sign on the shelf.  It says, "We no longer sell cola products...  Out of cola beans".  Now I don't know what cola is made out of, but imagine the world can no longer produce a cola product....  What would you do?  I mean, after de-tox, what would you to?  Well, you would probably end up trying out a new product and get on with your life...

Diet ColaSo fast forward SIX years.  You have not tasted cola in that length of time.

You receive a knock at the door

You go to answer the door, and it is a Diet Pepsi dude.  He has a sample of a new Diet Pepsi product.  He hands it to you.  He then sends you a post card reminding you about Diet Pepsi, he gives you a quick call in a week to see what you thought of the sample.  He sends you and email with the state of the market, and that it is a good time to buy Diet Pepsi.  Then he becomes your friend on Facebook and follows you on twitter.  He makes sure that you don't forget about Diet Pepsi. He is there, there, THERE!  He makes you see that Diet Pepsi is the choice of people NOW!  And it tastes great, goes perfect with ice, and helps you burp great belches.  He is consistently reminding you that Diet Pepsi rocks...

Later that month, you go to the store and on the shelf of the soda isle, you see Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi on the shelf...  Now you have not had Diet Coke in 6 years...  And you have not heard a word about Diet Coke in 6 years.  Recently you have had Diet Pepsi all over you...  So which do you choose?

Interesting question...  You would probably choose Diet Pepsi...

NAR states that 1 in 6 people buy/sell a home every year.  Or you could say that the average person buys/sells every 6 years.  NAR also states that the average person does not use the same agent again...  So......  You can dominate your farm or SOI over time, by out-touching your competition!  :)

So no matter how good you are... If you are not reminding your clients about YOU, then they are forgetting you...  And the next agent might be doing a better job than you did, and that is why your friend/past client used them instead of you...

What are your thoughts?  I would love to hear!

Chris, We've gotten a ton of business over the years by mailing more than anyone else.  After the initial expired campaign of 2-3 postcards, we're still standing....keepin' on, keepin' on.  At some point, we become the Diet Pepsi guy, the only one on the shelf still in touch.  Doesn't always get us the call, but often enough to make it worthwhile to mail for literally years.

Great way to make the point! Regardless of what kind of pop we drink.... or drank....or prefer.... Addicted to Pepsi - Use Coke (classic of course) for mixed drinks though because it's not so sweet....

Chris, Love the analogy.  I do a monthly e-newsletter and send out refrigerator magnets and I know they have both brought my clients back.

Good analogy that is sure to leave your readers thirsty for more! In this challenging market and economy, we would all benefit from following Diet Pepsi's lead on the 8x8. This is one of the best times to gain market share.

I get your point.... however do you want to know how annoying it is that in Vegas I can't get a diet coke in any of the hotel shops, or anywhere in San Diego City in the Hotel Zone.

Yes I'm a Diet Coke girl -- and not for the reason you think.

It is NOT the caffeine -- it's the bubbles.
