"I Found You Online - But You Gotta Answer Your Phone"

Answering the phone is just so basic to any company's success. Its basic customer service and if you don't give service to your client, than someone else will!

woman on phoneAre there any sweeter words than to listen to your voice mail and hear, "I found you online and I would like you to represent me in the purchase of a house."

Bada bada bing.  You got it!

This happened yesterday - rather, I should say AGAIN yesterday, because it was the third call this week (and 2nd yesterday) saying essentially the same thing, although the other two calls were about listings.

I'm liking this whole internet thing.

I have to admit to a certain amount of deflation, however, when I actually spoke to the prospect.

He initially called while I was on the phone with another prospect and seeing the area code, which I recognized, I assumed (yes, I KNOW what that means) it was a friend of mine calling from that area, so I let it go to voice mail.  When I hung up, I listened to his message and heard the words above.  Turns out he was out of the country, so the number displaying on my phone was not valid. He left his email address, though.

I immediately sent him an email, set him up on Listingbook and said to myself, "that's all I can do," mentally kicking myself for missing his call.

A few minutes later, my phone rang again - seems he was online and had received my email.  He mentioned he had called several agents (whaaaa----? really?  Oh.) he had found online who seemed to know the area in which he was interested, but no one answered their phone and I was the only one who had responded.  We had a long conversation, he later emailed me his lender qualification letter (I'm really liking this!) and we set up an appointment for a couple of weeks from now when he will be back in the area.

Sometimes it is a matter of being in the right place at the right time.  Had I been out showing and not been able to whip out my iPad immediately and send him a message, the outcome may have been completely different.

But it was a great wake up call -- as important as it is to be found online, we also need to answer the phone!

Thanks for re-posting this, since I missed it earlier. Good points since I really don't understand anyone not wanting to answer their phone, especially in "sales". Either you want this career or you don't.

Answering the phone and calling back in minutes are key to converting many of these leads.
