It's no wonder to me that Sunset Magazines chose Bellingham's Farmer's Market #1 in their list of top 10 farmer's markets.
The market has been a hit since it opened back in 1993 when a dedicated group of locals had the vision to see locally grown produce sold downtown. The market has expanded to be what it is today, a destination for locals and visitors alike to shop for fresh, local organic fruits, vegetables, flowers, plants, as well as locally made crafts from pottery to hand made clothes, jewelry, art, even beautifully hand crafted wooden Peace Poles. Some folks just come for lunch from a variety of vendors selling salmon sandwiches, salads, Indian, Thai, and Ethiopian food, pizza made fresh at the market, candy and baked goods. There are always lots of street performers of the busker variety for those into entertainment and some actual shows and festivals that happen there through out the year. You can even get a chair massage there from the skilled hands of someone at "The Palms," I was one of the founders of "The Palms" and and enjoyed doing chair massage at the market for more than 10 years starting the year the market began in 1993.
The market has Kids Vending Days on the last Saturday of the month, Chef's in the Market the 3rd Saturday of the month, featuring local chefs and a smaller Wednesday Market in Fairhaven. It's no wonder we're #1
