What is closed on Canada Day 2011 in Toronto, Ontario?

Friday, July 1, 2011 is Canada Day in Ontario and across Canada. Since Canada Day is a statutory holiday in Ontario, there will be many closures. In addition, some services will operate on a holiday schedule. Below is a list of some of the closures for Canada Day 2011 in Toronto, Ontario.

The following will be closed:

  • Government offices (municipal, provincial and federal) except for a very limited number of services
  • Libraries
  • Canada Post
  • Stores, shopping centres, plazas, grocery stores (some shopping may be available in designated tourist areas or where there are exceptions in the legislation)
  • Beer store, liquor store
  • Schools
  • Banks and trust companies
  • Many businesses

Many services will be operating on holiday service including:

  • GO Transit (trains and buses)
  • TTC (Toronto Transit Commission)

I got married to my wife on July 3rd and the next year we returned to Canada for our 1st anniversary and we had no idea. Everything was closed and celebrations were going on everywhere. It was much better on our 3rd anniversary when we expected it - lol (Love your country for its beauty)
