This year as part of my New Year's resolution on my online marketing for my business as a Realtor, I decided I was going to confront the learning curve and learn to make my own videos. I was going to make use of my YouTube channel that had no videos, and expand my reach to new public with this popular form of social media.
I have now created over 60 videos on my YouTube Channel: MichaelDelaware1. It is has been quite a fun learning experience, and there is always more to learn. Today I want to share with you a feature on YouTube that I have just discovered for my own video making, and it is called: 'AudioSwap'.
Essentially when you create a video that is really for presentation purposes only, you may just want to show pictures and clips of video, with music in the background. So you can use your song base from your iTunes, but if the work is copyrighted, YouTube will either strip it of all sound, or send you a warning that you video is banned in certain countries, or that you video will be show iTunes or some other company advertising while the video plays.
You can challenge it with YouTube, and if you are successful, they will remove the tags, etc. I have read many blogs and articles on the subject of copyright law in regards to YouTube, and the are varying opinons on whether it is a copyright violation to create and share a video for private use, and no advertising or financial gain. There have been many video makers on YouTube that have been successful in this battle when the video is for private use.
But what about a real estate video presenting a listing? I would say that there is financial gain involved there, and thus I would not use copyrighted works for this. So what do you do?
Youtube offers a feature called 'AudioSwap' where you can upload a video with or without sound, and select from a library of over 1000+ songs in various genres, and swap the entire sound track and play it on your video. This is a great tool, as it gives you a ton of selection to find the perfect sound track for your video.
Like anything, there are pro's & cons to using this tool. Some of the pro's of this are that is gives you a vast selection of soundtracks to choose from for free. It also is pretty easy to do.
Some of the con's are that it often places advertising on your video, which I really do not mind. It also wipes all sound from the video, and replaces it with the track you choose, so you really should only use this tool if you are okay with one song playing from the beginning to the end.
Some tips for using this tool:
1) Make sure the sound track you choose it the same size or longer than your video.
2) Use the preview function as much as you like, so select a track, and click 'preview' to see how it will work with your video. I recommend trying several versions with your video before making a selection.
3) When you upload your video that you intend to swap, save it in 'private' as a setting until you are done with making the changes, then switch it over to 'public'. That way when you launch it into the public sphere it is just how you want it.
Here is an example of a video I created on a dog breed called the 'Portuguese Water Dog' which I am very fond of, and I filmed at a recent dog show I attended. I loaded the video on YouTube without any sound, and selected a sound track using 'AudioSwap'. Let me know what you think:
