Webster Texas: BORDERS GOING OUT OF BUSINESS

By
Real Estate Agent with David Tracy Real Estate #555994

Well today was the last day to go into Borders and buy a book. They had a 40% to 50% sale of the entire book store. Of course you knew Boarders Books store was going out of business.

Yeah Boarders is going out of business... some say that Amazon killed this book store; that and the sales in electronic books. I still prefer to hold a book. I do see the good in having some type of electronic book because of the weight issues, if you are traveling or some where that is too cumbersome to carry a hard back book the e-book is the way to go.

Of course I do like audable books too. I don't own any at this point but I have listened to them from the library. I may go to Audible.com and sign up; however, I am not sure yet.

In any case I was not a Borders gal, but did go today so my husband, the "other" bookworm in the household could see if anything was left. Everything was pretty much picked over. They only had one real estate book on the shelf! While some business are dying...some are thriving. It takes a quick witted person these days to make a go of it.

If you see something that looks like it will pretty much be around a long time like electronic books than maybe just maybe you ought to jump on board.

Same with, if you see something that is working for the majority of us, it would behoove you to check it out. And maybe go with the flow to stay afloat!

So a si a si.... good luck to your owners in the next endeavor...

Sussie,

I've been an electronic book guy for several years now. That being said, I did like to go into our local Borders and browse the shelves. I'm sorry to see them go, and more sorry for the employees.

Yeah... they were troopers in there today...which was their last day. I like going into the book stores too! I usually buy the hardback journals to write in. I hate to see business die.

Sussie - I still like to hold a book --I guess I'm behind times, but I love reading and holding the book is part of it.

Yep, the Borders here was wiped out with their sale.  My husband wanted a medical book and they were all gone.  Oh well.  E-books are great, but there is still nothing better than a regular book in my mind :)!

Sussie - The world changes every day. My wife listens to downloaded audio books on her cell phone while tanning on the beach :-)

I am sorry to see Borders close, although I rarely went there. The Borders here is right across the street from Barnes and Noble, which seems to get most of the business. I love my Kindle, but I do love being able to hold a book and dog-ear the pages I need to refer back to.

Sussie - I find it sad to see book stores go out of business.  I have never read an electronic book, because I love to hold a book in my hands.  I love the way they feel, the way they smell, and I can wander around the isles of a book store for hours!  We did not have a Borders here, but we do have a small, local bookstore and I am crossing my fingers that they stick around for a long, long time!
