Special offer

Buying a home IS a serious endeavor.

I am amazed with my clientel of late. I have written two offers to purchase in the past couple of weeks and both have fallen out - mostly to buyers remorse. You can tell when there's buyers remorse going on  - no one is getting fooled with crazy excuses.

Maybe it's me! I must not be conveying to my clients that this is a serious endeavor. Why put the sellers through the emotional upheaval of getting the offer and negotiating the deal, lining up attorneys and inspectors etc, etc just to say  "We decided we don't like the area". Isn't this something to figure out before deciding on any home?

Sometimes there are very legitimate reasons for walking away from a contract. I understand that - I've been doing this for a long time. But lately it just seems buyers are not undertanding that this is not a game. Buying a home is a serious endeavor!

Hi Corianne,
It seems they weren’t inlove with the house.
Maybe, finding a neighborhood or two within their budget and focusing on such areas might help them to find their dream home. Hopefully they have a good budget and are realistic.

Good luck!

Sometimes they just get caught up with it. I had one couple like that, they kept finding bank owned properties they were really interested in. They had their loan all set up. But then the market kept changing and not for the better, and they decided it would be too risky. At least they had buyers remorse before making an offer. I sympathize with your situation.

Praful,

I agree with you. I sat down with both clients and asked several times before pulling out the paperwork - "You're sure this is the home you want to persue"  "You understand that writing an offer is serious and once negotiations have run their course, and an agreement is made, you are buying a house".

Next week is promising to be a better week!

Hella and Wandanna,

These folks are first time homebuyers and just need a lot of hand holding. Hopefully they will now understand the whole process of get offers accepted and be willing to stick with the program!

All is good in the end.
