Last night we attended the Blue Collar Ball, a benefit event for the Wisconsin Parkinson Association. And what an event it was...held at the Grohmann Museum in downtown Milwaukee, the collection of artwork was more than you could absorb during just one tour of this outstanding local culture center. This building is part of the Milwaukee School of Engineering and houses a collection of more than 800 sculptures and paintings that appropriately illustrate the evolution of human work.
We began our tour at the rooftop garden and Dr. Grohman's office on the 4th floor and wandered through the 3 floors below to continually be amazed at this collection which takes the evolution from works in the 1500's with farming and mining to glass blowing and seaweed gathering...truly an amazing collection.
Our participation in this fund raising event was not only to attend. (Proceeds from the $75 admission go to the Wisconsin Parkinson Association) but we also donated to the Silent auction to help spur the proceeds of this event and the activities of this worthwhile organization. This regional center is one of the largest of its kind in the country with programs featuring diagnosis, education, research, treatment and rehabilitation. This center assists in coordination of programs in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Iowa working with patients, caregivers and their families. The center follows the progress of more than 5,000 patients annually.
It was a wonderful evening to learn about the Association's activities, to absorb the cultural experience offered by the tremendous display of art and to know in some very small way we were helping to spur the research and community awareness that we know will some day lead to learning the cause and finding a cure for this disease.
Pay it forward...find an organization in your area that works hard to help the community...show them you appreciate their efforts whether it is a through a donation...your time...your attendance at an event. The money you help to raise, the comfort you can offer and the support you give can make a world of difference....one step forward at a time.
