5 Video Blog tips for beginner

By
Real Estate Agent with Douglas Elliman Real Estate

Look through my 2011 of blogging, I think 2012 we will definitely implement more video blogs posts mix with photos and written posts. Through all the posts I have done this year, I thought I can share some tips that I thought it may be helpful.

1) If you don't have any fancy camera equipment, that is ok, maybe invest a SONY Flip Camera - For $200 (some other websites may be cheaper), you can take High definition videos of your listings, yourself introducing the listings, or sit infront of the laptop and record few minutes of your market report.

2) No script needed, really...! Have some ideas of what you want to say, maybe jog down some bullet points but not necessary the full script. Buyers or Sellers rather have you be yourself than reading off a full written script and you are messing up on it.

3) No one is going to see that extra pimple or wrinkle that you want to hide! If you do three takes, that is plenty, pick one of those three takes! It is unneccessary to take 10 videos or more, the idea is to do short informative videos and post them! You will get better and be more comfortable at it.

4) Have fun with yourself. Start taking videos of random things and experiment. Don't be afraid to make a mistake. It is ok to be a perfectionist, but we all know that no one is perfect!

5) Join the Active Rain group VIDEO BLOG EXPRESSION and post your video blogs there. (http://activerain.com/groups/VideoBlogs)

Eileen, would a video blog be good for different topics or only instructional?

Good tips, including the one to "just go for it"...the audience is listening / watching about what we're selling, not "us".

Hi Joe, in my opinion, the video blog can be topical or instructional. The key is to connect with the audience, essentially if you wrote about it, you can most likely video blog about it.

I keep reading great "Tips to Start Video Blogging" blogs like this one, and just can't seem to bring myself to just do it!  Once again, you have inspired me.  Next week is the week!

Great tips.  I had someone tape 2-3 for me on flip camera, and it was surprisingly easier than I thought.  when you are talking abt topics you know, it's actually not that hard, and you're right, you don't need a script.

Debbie, yes, when you know the content (the market, housing prices, staging tips, in your case flooring) it is very easy to have the video taped in a nature and easy flow.

Hi Eileen, you are doing a good job on your clips.  I am planning on more videos for next year as well.  I've found that they can be a bit time consuming to edit, etc plus I've never liked to hear my own voice on tape... issues to overcome!  :-)

Hi Joan, you can do it! I want you to do a video blog post by end of this year! :-)

Silvia, I am sure you are great on video, I do one take on my video (ok, maybe two on some) but there is no cutting out and just one piece all the way through. I think the key is to keep it short so there is less to mess up and easier for the consumers.

Videos of just the agent, broker when the buyer wants, needs area information badly, when he has little time to mess around and just wants the property listings. Those are the videos that rack up the views, gather the subscribers to your video channel....go easy on the personal branding and Johnny Wonder one shots. Not edited and just starring you... not the area, real estate that work so well to show and tell.
